Elders & Leadership Team

Matt & Emily Powers
Apostolic Elders
Matt and Emily Powers are co-founders and pastors of Firelands Church, entrepreneurs, and lifelong builders. Together, they have spent more than two decades building businesses, cultivating spiritual family, and investing in people and places with a generational vision. Their shared passion is to see people healed and equipped, families strengthened, resources stewarded for Kingdom purposes, and the Church become a mature, presence-centered family capable of carrying revival and reformation.
Best friends since high school, Matt and Emily have built a life marked by deep friendship, shared adventure, and a love for the presence of God. Family is at the center of their world, especially life with their two daughters. Endlessly curious, they love learning, traveling, great food, time in nature, and conversations that range from Scripture and big ideas to business, culture, and whatever part of the world they hope to explore next.
John & Molly Curtiss
Pastoral Elders
John and Molly Curtiss are pastors, worship leaders, and business owners whose leadership is marked by compassion, wisdom, and an unusual attentiveness to people. They have a gift for seeing the person right in front of them, listening well, and creating the kind of space where people feel safe to be known and challenged to grow. Whether around a table, in worship, through business, or in the ordinary moments of life, they walk closely with people, helping them become deeply rooted in Jesus, secure in who He has made them to be, and faithful in the life He has given them.
Married for over a decade, John and Molly are raising three children and have built a life shaped by faith, family, music, and a love for simple things. They laugh easily, value a slower and more intentional way of life, and share a deep love for Israel and the Jewish roots of their faith. They love making music, gathering around the table, spending time outdoors, and making room for others to belong.

Leadership Standards at Firelands Church

1

Daily Encounters

We meet with Jesus daily because He’s our source, and from Him comes every resource. This is how we stay connected to God and lead His people with wisdom, humility, and joy.
John 15:4-5, Psalm 27:4, Mark 1:35
2

Preferring Jesus

To prefer Jesus means laying down our own preferences and pride to pursue His heart. We refuse to take offense and instead choose unity. When we put Him first, all wrongs are made right as He works everything together for good.
Philippians 2:1-5, Colossians 3:12-15, John 17:21-23
3

Sabbath

Sabbath is a declaration of trust—an act of worship that keeps us aligned with our original design. We embrace weekly rest, knowing it creates space for grace to sustain our pace.
Exodus 20:8–11, Hebrews 4:9–11, Mark 2:27
4

Tithe

We honor God with our finances by returning a minimum of 10% to the Owner of all things. Tithing is a covenant act of worship that aligns our hearts with His provision and priorities.
Malachi 3:10, Proverbs 3:9–10, Matthew 6:21
5

Service

Service is an expression of lovesickness. Whether seen or unseen, we joyfully serve God by serving others. It is evidence of humility and a fruit of unity within a Kingdom family.
Mark 10:45, Philippians 2:3–5, Galatians 5:13
